How we rank eSIMs

merdata sells one of the eSIMs we compare. That is why we never call ourselves “independent”. Instead we publish our full method here — the exact weights, what we measure and how. You can check the maths yourself, and we tell you when a competitor is cheaper for your trip.

The weights we rank by

Each eSIM gets a combined score from these five factors. The weights are fixed and published here — no hidden thumb on the scale.

50%
Price per GB
Final price divided by data volume — the honest apples-to-apples number. Weighted heaviest.
20%
Coverage and network
Which local networks the eSIM uses, and whether it supports 4G/5G where you travel.
15%
Validity
How long the data lasts. Longer validity at the same price counts in favour.
10%
Activation
How easy it is to get online: QR code, no app, no account.
5%
Top-up honesty
Whether you can top up without hidden fees or having to buy all over again.

Our own eSIM gets no advantage

merdata is ranked by the exact same method as everyone else — zero artificial boost, no exclusive “recommended” badge. When a rival wins on price per GB for your destination, it sits on top and we say so plainly. That we dare to is the whole difference from an affiliate blog that always puts its own code first.

When merdata is recommended anyway, it is because it is right for the Norwegian buyer: pay with Vipps, no account, no credit check, a registered Norwegian company and support.
