Does Google, WhatsApp and Facebook work in China with this eSIM?
Yes. The eSIM is a roaming plan: your phone connects to Chinese towers, but the data itself leaves through a gateway outside mainland China. It is therefore not subject to China's internet censorship, and Google, Gmail, Google Maps, WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger and Instagram work like at home — without a VPN.
Do I need a VPN in China?
Not to use our eSIM. We still recommend installing a VPN app before departure as a backup, since such apps are hard to download once you're in China. Note that some services may behave slightly differently because your traffic appears to come from outside — ChatGPT is the most common example.
Do I need to do anything special for China?
No. You install the eSIM the usual way. Your phone connects to a local network automatically when you land.
How long does activation take?
